Patta

பட்டா

The ownership record of land in Tamil Nadu, issued by the Revenue Department in the name of the owner.

Patta is the Tamil Nadu Revenue Department's record of land ownership. It names the owner, the survey number, the extent, and the tax (kist) payable.

A patta is transferable by sale deed, inheritance, or partition, and the ownership change is recorded by a patta transfer (name transfer) mutation at the taluk office or online via the TN e-services portal.

Patta is not the same as chitta/adangal (the annual cultivation account) or the FMB (the survey sketch) — all three are separate records filed under the same survey number.
