The patta copy — the record showing whose name your survey number stands in — is one of the most asked-for documents in Tamil Nadu. Here is how to extract it online and offline, and what to do when the areas don't match.
Your district, taluk, revenue village, and survey number. All four appear on your FMB sketch, old patta, or sale deed. The survey number is the key — the portal finds your holding by it.
Open eservices.tn.gov.in, go to the Patta / Chitta section, enter district, taluk, village, and survey number, and click the search. The patta copy opens on screen — download or print it. The online copy is fine for reference and loan files; offices may still ask for a certified copy for land records changes.
For a patta extract specifically needed for a sale, mortgage, or inheritance file, use the TN Patta / Chitta portal option that returns the updated record after name transfer — it comes with the application reference and validation details schools, banks, and sub-registrar offices accept.
If the online record is mismatched or the transaction is old, the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of your village provides the patta/chitta extract; the taluk office issues a certified copy for a small fee. Carry your survey number and identification.
Sometimes the patta shows hectares and the FMB shows acres and cents, or older records carry a slightly different extent. Convert with our hectare-to-acres table (see the converter page) and confirm the correct extent at the taluk office — a joined combined FMB sketch helps your surveyor and the office reconcile the boundaries.
Own land spread across two adjoining survey numbers? We stitch both FMB sheets into one continuous, boundary-accurate map — with the shared boundary aligned exactly. Delivered as a print-ready PDF, editable DWG, and optional Google Maps layout across Tamil Nadu.
Common questions about Combined FMB Sketch services across Tamil Nadu.
The online copy is the government record for reference and bank files; mutations and legal changes are reflected after the taluk office updates the register.
The certified copy at the taluk office carries a small application fee; the online e-services copy and viewing are free.
Different records measure differently (hectares vs acres/cents) or the extent predates re-survey. Convert units, then reconcile the boundary with a combined FMB sketch and the taluk office.
